Garden Design History
Hello!
As with any website, this one is constantly evolving and is in what we honestly call a DRAFT. But I am putting it up and publishing in the hope that some may find it and would like to take part. I will be reaching out to an audience as I find more avenues for doing so properly. Please let me know what you think by emailing: moreinfo@gdhc.info
My organizing hypothesis: As you stroll happily through a garden, park, or street knowing the realm in which it was created lends meaning and a richer experience for the walker. G+D+H will illustrate the history which is needed to understand the zeitgeist, the cultural context of the time, in which the design was created. You should be able to hum the music and empathize with the perspective of the patrons from the past.
This is a work in progress. The goal is a website that will be a hub for garden history and garden tours that focus on the context of the garden’s creation, the history, culture and political situation it was formed from.
I am working on the content now and learning the ropes of website and app creation. This website will hold the data needed to understand the garden you may be standing in and an app that can take you to the music, art and characters that will help appreciate the garden’s design.
The archeological record is creating more and more references for ancient civilizations. We have evidence that at the edge between hunter/gatherer groups and agriculturalists were special places made where community celebrations and social shared meaning were developed. The garden of Cyrus the Great is well studied and the remains are to be seen today in modern Iran.
